Pablo Hernández: “When You Don’t Kill the Game, Any Action Can Punish You”

Castellón left the Murube stadium with a 1-1 draw, a result that felt like a missed opportunity. Coach Pablo Hernández acknowledged his team’s inability to close out a match they controlled, especially after halftime, where they created several clear chances to secure all three points.

The coach pointed out that the game was marked by a slow tempo for much of its duration. “The pitch was very dry, and there was a long stoppage due to a medical incident in the stands, which made it hard for us to find our rhythm,” he said. Despite this, Castellón produced two or three clear goal-scoring opportunities in the first half, though they also endured some transitional plays from Ceuta without the visitors generating clear chances.

After the break, the Albinegro side raised their game. “We came out very strong in the second half, we stepped up a gear, and we were able to create many clear chances,” Hernández highlighted. However, a lack of precision once again punished the team. “In this division, when you don’t kill games and don’t take your chances, any action can come back to haunt you,” he added.

That punishment arrived in the final minutes in the form of a penalty, allowing Ceuta to equalize. The coach expressed uncertainty about the decision. “I didn’t see it well and I don’t know if it was a penalty or not, but unfortunately this season we are experiencing many situations like this, almost everything going against us,” he said, visibly resigned.

Hernández was clear when assessing the draw from a standings perspective. “We leave with the feeling that we left two important points here,” he admitted, insisting that his team had “plenty of chances, practically one-on-ones,” to have sealed the match before the equaliser.
