Tottenham’s Relegation Escape Hits a Snag as They Drop Two Vital Points
Spurs were held to a 1-1 draw by visiting Leeds United on Monday evening at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in Matchweek 36 of the Premier League.
Matias Tel put Tottenham ahead in the 50th minute, but Dominic Calvert-Lewin equalized for Leeds with a penalty in the 74th minute.
The dropped points dealt a serious blow to Tottenham’s fight to avoid relegation, handing a lifeline to West Ham United, who lost 1-0 to league leaders Arsenal on Sunday.
Tottenham now sit 17th with 38 points, just two points ahead of 18th-placed West Ham in the final relegation spot, with only two matches remaining.
On the other hand, Leeds United secured their Premier League status for another season, moving up to 14th place with 44 points—eight clear of the danger zone.
In the final two games, Tottenham will face Chelsea and Everton, while West Ham take on Newcastle United and Leeds United.
Wolverhampton Wanderers (20th) and Burnley (19th) have already been relegated, meaning the battle for the third and final relegation spot is now a straight shootout between Tottenham and West Ham.
