The Márquez family experienced one of the worst weekends of the current season at Le Mans. If Saturday saw Marc crash out with harsh consequences, Sunday brought no relief as Àlex Márquez also failed to finish the race after another fall. Fortunately, the rider emerged unscathed physically, beyond the initial scare.

Àlex set off alarm bells when he remained lying on the ground for a few seconds after the crash. Shortly after, he was seen standing and walking back to the pits without any visible issues.

“I got a bit dizzy, you know, just one of those five seconds where you have to figure out where you are again. But it was a very silly crash,” he explained to ‘DAZN’ microphones.

Regarding the accident itself, the Cervera native detailed: “I made turn three slower, but when I entered turn four, I gave a bit more gas and lost the front end during the change of direction—I wasn’t expecting it. So… lots of anger because it’s a very stupid mistake.”

With the crash occurring in the early stages, the winner of last week’s Spanish Grand Prix barely got to enjoy the race, though he did draw some conclusions from the weekend. “I managed one lap and two corners. In the warm-up we made a step forward—we tried a direction that others had used during the weekend, and it helped. We improved, so we had made progress, but we couldn’t materialize it in the race,” he explained.

Closer to Aprilia

Beyond the results, Márquez was optimistic about Ducati’s chances, though “we need to keep calm.” “I think today Pecco could have been on the podium—at least he had the pace for it—but he made that small mistake in turn three, which is very critical,” he said regarding the Italian’s crash while battling for third place.

“We weren’t that far off, and those Aprilia bikes are not as unbeatable as they were in the first three races of the year,” he concluded.
